How To Get Indexed By Google

If you are reading this, obviously you want to know how to get indexed by Google. And you probably want to know how to get indexed by Bing and Yahoo! as well. Well I’ve got good news for you – it’s not hard to do at all. In fact, getting your website indexed by the major search engines can be accomplished in as little as a few hours!

6 Tips on How To Get Indexed By Google (and Bing and Yahoo!)

To get your website indexed quickly, here are 6 easy things you can do without spending a dime. By implementing even just a few of these tips, you can often times get your site indexed within hours.

1. Use IsMySiteIndexed.com
Since you are reading this on this site, I assume you’ve already used the site. If you haven’t, go do it now! IsMySiteIndexed.com wasn’t built just to help you determine if your website is indexed by the three major search engines, it was also built to help get your website indexed. I won’t bore you how the site works technically, but sufficed it to say, the site gets crawled hourly by the major search engines so when you check to see if your website is indexed, the search engine spiders are immediately sent to your website. Using this site alone is usually all it takes to get your website indexed quickly.

2. Use Twitter
Twitter is a high traffic website with lots of activity and as a result, the search engines crawl the site around the clock. If you don’t already have a Twitter account, get one as it’s free to do. As you publish new content on your website, tweet each new page. Often times a simple tweet will get your page indexed within a day – if not within hours!

3. Use Social Bookmarking Sites
Social bookmarking websites are constantly being updated with fresh content. Because of the activity on these sites, the search engine bots crawl these websites regularly. You can leverage this by bookmarking all new pages you publish on your website.

Some examples of these sites include Digg.com, StumbleUpon.com, Delicious.com, and Mixx.com. There are literally hundreds of these sites on the Internet.

4. Blog Commenting and Forum Posting
Blog commenting and forum posting work alike. For blog commenting, all you need do is visit a few high activity dofollow blogs. Read their posts and then contribute a meaningful comment while leaving a link to your website. You can either hyperlink your name on the comment or if the blog allows, leave a link to your website directly in your comments.

Forum posting works in a similar manner. You just need to sign up with forums, make some meaningful posts, and include your links in your signature. Please note that just spamming forums and blogs will most likely get the opposite result as most blogs and forums will delete your post in a heartbeat if they suspect you’re a spammer. Only leave valuable and useful comments!

5. Create an XML Sitemap
An XML sitemap is created specifically for search engines so they can easily navigate and index your web pages. If you use WordPress, there are various free plugins you can use to create one. I use the Google XML Sitemap plugin. If you don’t use WordPress, you can create an XML sitemap for free at XML-Sitemaps.com.

Once you have created your XML sitemap, create an account at each of the three major search engine’s webmaster tools and submit your sitemap to each. This is free to do and will only take a few minutes. Here are links to each:

Yahoo! Site Explorer
Bing Webmaster Tools
Google Webmaster Tools

6. Install Google Analytics
Google Analytics is free and will provide you with a lot of useful information and may help get your website indexed by Google quickly. Important: don’t forget to verify your site during the installation process or no data will be collected!

2 Bonus Tips on How To Get Indexed by Google

These two bonus tips aren’t necessarily going to help get your website indexed quickly if your website is new, but they will help get any new content you add to your website indexed quickly (meaning you might not even have to implement any of the tips mentioned above).

Bonus Tip 1. Content is Key
You need to add content to your website on a regular basis to keep the search engine bots visiting your website so that any new content you publish gets indexed quickly. At a minimum, you should publish content at least once per week for the first 6 months the site is live. It is also important to optimize your content for the keywords you are targeting so that one the content is indexed, it can start getting ranked in the search engines as well.

Bonus Tip 2. Make Your Content Easy To Find
Make sure your content is organized logically and easy to find so that when visitors and the search engines visit your website, they will be able to easily find your content. If your site isn’t organized, visitors and the search engine bots may not be able to find your content.

Now that you know how to get indexed by Google (and Bing and Yahoo!), the next step is to improve search engine rankings of your website.
